Project CARING (Contribution of Airlines for the Reduction of Industry Nuisances and Gases) aims at understanding how airlines deal with current and future environmental constraints (emissions and noise).
Project CARING - which started early 2010 - was the only airline-related topic in the first call for projects. The consortium is led by OpenAirlines and includes airlines (Airlinair, Transavia and the TUI Group: Thomson Airways, TUIfly, Corsairfly, etc.), an airline trade association (FNAM), a university & research lab (ENAC), and expert SMEs (ENVISA, Icon Consulting and SustainAvia).
The goal of CARING is fourfold:
The consortium invested almost 1M€ in two years to pursue this research.
SustainAvia focused on the survey of environmental constraints in the aviation industry (EU ETS, APD, eco-tax, carbon tax, airport emissions tax, engine tax, etc.) and on the analysis of how airlines cope with these constraints from a business, operational and strategic point of view.
